Schools are required to ensure that assistive technology devices or assistive technology services, or both, are made available to a child with a disability if required as a part of the child’s special education services, under Section 300.105, of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997 (IDEA).  Schools are required to provide appropriate accommodations and services for students with disabilities. Students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) must be considered for assistive technologies to determine whether technology will increase access to education and participation in the general curriculum.
